About Potsdam

Just 25 Kilometers southwest of Berlin, on the River Havel, the historic city of Potsdam is home to an array of beautiful palaces and gardens that were once the summer homes of Prussian Kings. Potsdam originated as a military base for the Prussian army, but later was chosen by the King of Prussia as a perfect location for ornate castles and gardens outside the pomp of the Berlin court. Today, Potsdam is known for its beautiful gardens, numerous festivals, scenic palaces, unique landscape and lively culture. Potsdam is also recognized as a leading center of science in Germany.
