art’otel amsterdam and 5&33 restaurant & bar take home two awards
at the exclusive Venuez Hospitality and Style Awards 2013
12 March 2013 – Newly opened art’otel amsterdam, the first of a new generation of art’otels and neighbouring arts and dining venue 5&33 won ‘Best Hotel Design’ and ‘Best Restaurant Design’ 2013 awards at the Hospitality and Style Awards 2013. Organised by Entree, Proost and Venuez Magazine which have merged to form Entree Magazine, now the largest and most influential hospitality trade magazine in the Netherlands. The awards were attended by the influential movers and shakers in the Dutch hospitality industry.
The interior design of both art’otel amsterdam and 5&33 were directed by Digital Space’s Eyal Shoan fusing architectural style with art-inspired interiors. The designs boast strikingly sleek, modern lines, incorporating natural elements such as wood and glass as well as ‘industrial look’ accents – polished concrete floors and black steel pillars, gold and copper tones.
Best Hotel Design art’otel amsterdam was awarded ‘Best Hotel Design’ award which focuses on originality, appearance and functionality of interior public spaces and rooms. Other nominees for this category included Fletcher hotel in Amsterdam, Hilton hotel in Rotterdam and Main Port hotel, Rotterdam. The jury awarded art’otel amsterdam the winner for its attractive and equally comfortable interior equipped with the latest technology and international appeal.
Best Restaurant Design 5&33, the arts and dining venue in Amsterdam incorporating an all-day kitchen, bar and multi-functional, public gallery accessible to all was also awarded "Best Restaurant Design" fighting aff competitors including Boca Gastrobar in Eindhoven, Restaurant den Burgh in Hoofddrop, South of Houston in Den Haag and Stan & co in Utrecht. The nominees were evaluated on the complete bar-restaurant concept with a strong focus on interior.
5&33 boasts an open kitchen with a full view to diners and the adjacent bar is built in a free-standing island format with seating surrounding the bar on all sides. In addition, it hosts an open space gallery accessible to all and one of the biggest permanent, interactive art installations in Europe, custom designed and created for the venue by innovative design and film studio, Present Plus, who are best known for their We Transfer file sharing service.
art’otel amsterdam’s signature artist Atelier Van Lieshout, led by Joep van Lieshout and the artist’s “Course of Life” theme complemented Shoan’s design vision and direction.Atelier Van Lieshout said: ‘People, it’s official: art’otel amsterdam – with Atelier Van Lieshout as its signature artist – is definitively the most stylish hotel in the Netherlands.
